Alphabet House’s Curriculum
A large part of a child’s development and learning is having fun and finding their independence. At The Alphabet House Nursery School, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, which is the required standard for all Ofsted registered nurseries and pre-schools.
We encourage children to have fun as a part of their education, through child-led activities which are adapted to their individual learning styles.
The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum covers the time in your child’s life between 3 months and age 5. As this is such an important stage, this framework helps your child prepare for school and future successes.
In order for your child to achieve the very best results and get the most out of their learning journey with us, we have incorporated the Montessori principles into our nursery environment and teaching principles, creating an environment that fosters curiosity, learning and independence.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first, as they are the most essential for your child's healthy development and future learning:
Communication and language
Physical Development
Personal, social and emotional development.
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
As your child grows, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive arts and design
We utilise these seven areas to structure your child's learning and activities. Our dedicated team tailors activities to suit your child's individual needs, ensuring a curriculum that remains highly adaptable to their interests and requirements.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children learn through play, exploration, physical activity, and creative and critical thinking, both indoors and outdoors.
Keeping You Updated
When your child reaches 2 years old they will start to receive progress checks. Our team will give you a written summary of how your child is progressing against the 3 prime areas. It will highlight areas where your child is progressing well and anywhere they might need some extra help or support.
Communication and language
Physical Development
Personal, social and emotional development.
Transition To School
It’s a huge progression moving from nursery to school and we want to ensure that this is as hassle free as possible for you and your child.
We work closely with the local schools and the extended community throughout your child’s time with us to ensure we make that transition as smooth as possible when the time comes.
Please feel free to ask a member of staff for a copy of our Transition to School policy.
